Why?
My own father passed away when I was ten.
I never really had the full dad experience, and thought I’d missed out on learning what it was to be a dad. Turns out that I’m not alone.
However, during lockdown I realised that everything you need is right there. If you play, and take the time and really listen, your family will paint in any gaps.
So I thought, why not ask loads of people what their dad did that made him (or her*) the best there could ever be? What if I collect the wisdom and share it? It’s got to spread some good, hasn’t it?
Dear Dads came about because my dad wasn’t there to pass his wisdom down to me. But this project, this book and wherever it takes us, will pass your experiences on to every dad; every father figure that is and is yet to be.
*My sister's been a single parent for twenty years and every father’s day she gets cards. And actually, this is about anyone that has ever had to be a father figure, really anyway.
